As audiences fragment across platforms and preferences, visual content provides a universal language that bridges these gaps, fostering unified understanding.
Visual journalism offers an immersive experience that enhances user engagement, encouraging subscriptions with a preferred publisher. It is a USP to separate from the competition and to offer from something more visual than AI-generated content.
AI is set to turn journalists into multi-format storytellers. Text, voice, or visuals - we can automate content adaptation across different formats, AI frees journalists to focus on delivering quality stories.

Understanding the subject you're visualizing is critical. Strive to tell a clear and compelling story, which will help you identify the most important moments to illustrate.
Remember to use clear illustration to communicate story. Focus on having a good story, quality visuals, a well-balanced composition, and a restrained color palette.
Obsessions
As per usual some AI updates, filtered to a few specific updates which will affect data storytelling.
- A recent obsession with mapping had me looking at a few alternatives on the market, I was glad to discover Carto and Maptiler.
- The upcoming release of Rift, an AI code copilot for VS Code.
- GPT's latest alpha feature lets users create graphs in the chat directly.
- Using Code Interpreter to analyse and visualise data with mindblowing results.
Exciting times to say the least, we're being given more superpowers by the day.
